ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS-IS TO NOT USE SPECTRUM

That’s not true-that’s not all I want.  But I did think it was funny, and if you are like most people, you hate Spectrum.  Does anyone like them?  Their business model is literally to raise prices every few months, and the only way to stop it, or pause it, is to call and threaten to leave.  What kind of model is that?  I cannot think of one person I know that does not DREAD the idea of calling Spectrum.  I called on behalf of my parents and it was an hour and a half.  SO PAINFUL.  And it’s by design.  A Forbes article recently said internet providers are one of the most hated industries and nobody is surprised.

SO-I DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, and began the painful process of switching.

But MIC DROP-it was not painful-it was SO EASY and it has been an amazing experience (which has also saved me a lot of $$$).  Here is what I did.

I DID have Spectrum, and was annoyed by how often it went out, how slow it was, and as previously stated, the never-ending price increases.  I decided to cut the cord COMPLETELY-which involved a home phone (I know, I’m not 80), wireless internet, and select cable channels.  I want to say the internet was costing me around $75/month, phone was around $30, and those tiny handful of cable channels were around $30.  (You might think, wow-$30 for cable!  But when I tell you a HANDFUL of channels, I am not exaggerating.  Like local and 5 others or something….).  And then they add all their crazy taxes, so let’s say around $150/month.

The home phone was a no brainer.  I had been meaning to do it for forever-but again-calling and dealing with them gives everyone pause.  For cable, I decided to buy an antenna from Amazon.  If you are like me, and have not considered antennas since you were 12 and had to move those rabbit ears around, prepare to be delighted.  The new and improved versions give you a sticker thing that goes behind your tv, sticks to your wall, and costs like $40.  So, one month of my crappy Spectrum channels cancelled out my permanent antennae which now gets me my local channels every month for free.

FINALLY, THE REAL SHOWSTOPPER WAS I WENT TO VERIZON FOR INTERNET.

To say I was unsure, was an understatement.  We all know how dependent we are on the internet.  I called, they had coverage in my area, and I signed up.  They sent me a box, which I plugged in a normal outlet, and the entire thing was done in less than 5 minutes.  And that is in NO WAY an exaggeration.  Since then, I can count my internet problems on one hand, and have fingers left.  The best part? $40/Month FOREVER, no contract, and the first year COMPLETELY FREE.

It has been a great experience for us, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.  If you hate Spectrum, or whoever it is you currently use, consider looking.  I know it’s painful-but worth it.
